Style Crush : Amber Butchart

I was flicking through iplayer last night trying to find something to watch and came across the amazing Amber Butchart and her wonderful series A Stitch In Time.  What a glorious piece of television!  Amber, a former buyer for the vintage clothing emporium Beyond Retro and fashion historian (to name but a few feathers in her cap), is brimming with enthusiasm as she explores the lives of historical figures through their clothing.  Together with historical tailor Ninya Mikhaila she takes us on a journey replicating an outfit from historical works of art using only traditional methods.  As she says at the beginning of episode 1, which focuses on Charles II, 'clothes are the ultimate form of visual communication' and it really is incredible what you can learn about the social, economic and political situation of the time by examining what was worn, by whom and and how it was made.

Really looking forward to the next two episodes which will shown on BBC4 on Wednesdays at 8.30pm.  Coming across something like this by accident is always a treat as the history of fashion is one of my favourite topics but the icing on the cake is that I now have a new style crush.  Oh Amber! with your bright pops of colour and jaunty pedal pushers you are a delight and that hair! swoon. Amber's blog is wonderful and full of lovely pieces on all things sartorial, a real treat - please do take a look, you'll be hooked.
